Racial Feedback Bias, Racial Anxiety, and How Well-Meaning Doesn't Mean Beneficial

Kent Harber's Model of Threat-Infused Intergroup Feedback has important implications for truly addressing racial bias.

This will be a short post because the take-home message is: people need to read this article. In it, Kent Harber presents compelling and sadly disturbing evidence that well-meaning white people often fail to give People of Color useful, accurate, critical feedback for fear of being seen as racist. As a result, these People of Color don’t get the helpful feedback they need to improve their performance, resulting in yet another obstacle to racial justice. Thankfully, Harber presents some paths forward. This was a really thought- and reflection-provoking article. I hope people read and learn from it.
